Solæ Typeface
Solæ (pronounced So.la.é) is a serif typeface in two styles, designed by Gwennina Moigne and published by Blaze Type in 2025. It is a contemporary interpretation of the historic Romain du Roi, commissioned in 1692 by Louis XIV. The Sun King therefore directly inspired the name Solæ as well as the astral theme of the alphabet. The design of Solæ draws on the imagery of the cosmos: its curves recall the movements of the planets, its ligatures suggest the trails of shooting stars, and the delicacy of its strokes the constellations. The result is an alphabet with elegant lines and subtle contrast, enriched with numerous alternates. A Rotalic version completes the Regular style, its 9° rotation evokes celestial orbits and offers a singular alternative to the traditional italic. Solæ covers 100 languages and includes 2,082 glyphs, among which a wide range of uppercase and lowercase ligatures, inclusive writing, astrological signs, and lunar phases.
